Most people who install the hot water heater do not ever think about if until they shout “my hot water heater is leaking” nothing best that you can do besides fix it. Do not worry as you can do it yourself easily. The equipments that you need are plumber’s pliers, pipe wrench, regular and Phillips screwdriver. The first thing that you have to do is check the drain valve. Make sure that it is close and then tighten it with pipe wrench. If the tank is drained, remove it with pipe wrench and install the new valve. Second, if the heater is electric inspect the gasket. If it is leaking drained the tank and you may need also to install the new gasket.
The next thing that you have to do when “my hot water heater is leaking” is that if the heater gas is fire, relief the water though the relieve valve and then clear obstructions from the vent. Finally examine the Water Heater Pressure Relief valve (TP). It has the important role to prevent tank to explode because of the over pressure. If it is leaking, shut off the water line, drain the tank and install the new valve. Finally if my hot water heater is leaking you should not be panic, you better fix it as soon as possible before it can damage everything.
